Another year of fundraising events, sponsorships
and donations has flown by, but the generosity of the general public, local
businesses and organisations and a brilliant publicity campaign through
Chronicle Newspapers, Dee 106.3 Radio and our website has allowed us to make
dreams come true for a number of families in Chester, Ellesmere Port and
Flintshire. A 42 strong party including special needs children with one to
one carers, a Doctor and Miles of Smiles co-ordinators jetted out to Disneyland
Paris to enjoy a four day, all expenses paid adventure.
4 Days of wall to wall sunshine helped make the trip a roaring success and
cemented friendships amongst the group.
Many successful fundraising events have raised magnificent amounts of money and
it has been a joy to be part of The Dragon Boat Race on The River Dee, Dave
Newbrooks world Title Thai Boxing Fight at The Northgate Arena, The X-Factor
Karaoke Competition at The Piper, Hoole and The Bridge Inn 5-a-Side Football
Tournament on Cup Final Day. These events together with many others staged on
our behalf such as The Vauxhall's Football Festival have allowed us to pay for
this years trip and start the 2007-2008 on a sound financial footing.
As ever it would be impossible to thank everyone who has an input into what we
do, but we are always aware that as a charity we are only as good as our next
fundraiser or donation. It is a testament to the enthusiasm of an army of
volunteers, helpers and benefactors that we are able to keep these wonderful
trips which live long in the memory going on an annual basis.
A look at our forthcoming events page will show you a lot of the things we are
involved in and it is again a privilege for all of us connected with the appeal
to have met and worked with so many brilliant people.
Finally as we head into the winter months I would like to pay tribute to the
Miles of Smiles committee for their unswerving loyalty and support for another
12 months and a very special thank you to our Vice-Chairman Clive who has been
very ill for a long time but is battling away and doing his bit. And to
our Treasurer Gary for scrupulously attending to the Charity's Finances, our
Trip Co-ordinator Brian for making the trip go like clockwork yet again and to
Dr. Amrit Goyal for overseeing the well being of everyone on this years trip.
Well done everyone!
Mike Hughes
Chairman (Miles of Smiles, Chester Ltd.)
Best Wishes
